Focus on the big matters and let the small ones go

For a child, having parents who don't live together is often difficult to handle. If you are a parent in that position, you need to think carefully about how you are going to deal with your child's other parent. It might seem all too easy to just nitpick at everything the other parent does; however, doing this can cause frustration and turn a difficult situation into an even worse one.

One thing that you always have to remember is that parents handle parenting duties differently. The way that you handle something might not be the same way as the child's other parent handles the same matters.

The important thing in these cases isn't always having things done your way. Instead, the child's safety and happiness is what matters. As long as your child is safe and happy, you should be able to just accept the other parent's ways of handling situations.

When you let the small stuff go and focus on the big matters, you are placing your energy where it needs to be. You don't need to be so stressed out because of the small stuff that you don't have the ability to remain calm and collected to fight the big things.

Another way that letting the small stuff go might help you is that it sets a good example for your children. It lets them know that you can still behave in a classy way even if you aren't getting your way in every matter. This life lesson might prove to be very valuable to the children as they get older.
